Crazy Tech News Countdown: Potatoes on steroids, Ubuntu automatically detects your viewing angle and more

Welcome once again to Crazy Tech News Countdown, the weekly column where we count down the craziest, silliest or just plain insane tech stories. Please keep in mind this was written about a week before being published in order to temporarily make room for other projects I’m working on. With that out of the way, let’s count down the stories.

5. A tree that tweets about the air quality around it – Creativity knows no bounds, we’re seeing this everyday. But who would think anyone would attach a device to a 100-year-old tree in order to monitor the air conditions? And better yet, the device posts that data on Twitter and Facebook, as well as it’s website, talking-tree.com.

4. The iArm… whaa? – Well, not exactly, but this fake gift box maker came up with a box for an iPad stand you could strap on to your arm and, well, walk around with an iPad. Would be too heavy, but hey, still a good prank for your friends.

3. A crazy huge genetically modified potato – It’s a well-known fact people way too often don’t get the nutrients they need. A good way to solve that would be to have a balanced diet, but a high-tech way would be to just genetically modify the stuff we eat the most in order to make it more nutritious. This giant potato contains 1.6 times the protein of a normal potato, which will probably make eating French fries a lot more appealing? Wait, you don’t care, do you?

2. A perfect companion for your flip camera: a stereo recorder – The flip camera is already a great product, but through an accessory port, you can record stereo sound from that little thing. Don’t believe me?

1- Ubuntu adjust to your viewing angle – As you move, Ubuntu’s UI elements move with you

That’s it for now guys. Be sure to leave comments and let me know what you think. And of course, stay tuned for more next time!
