Introducing Bloataway: streamlining iTunes installs everywhere

It’s been nearly about 2 years since I last coded, and since then a lot has happened, so I guess this kinda marks my return to my coding roots. I had this idea about a month ago when iTunes 10 came out and shortly thereafter I started writing up this little app that aims to streamline the bloated Apple-provided installer. Today, I’m proud to introduce (and release) the first public beta of this app.

The UI (which might I add, is still in early development) lets you select which components you actually want to install and gives you an overview of what each component actually does. That way you can install iTunes without, among other things, putting up with Apple’s built-in software updater.

Everything’s in one package, literally. You hit a link and in less than 5 minutes you’re set.

This is beta 1. That goes without saying it’s not perfect, and certainly not feature-complete. I want your feedback on everything so I can improve upon it: throughout the month I’ll be putting out beta refreshes incorporating bug fixes and features you’ve suggested. If the feedback is positive (and abundant) enough, expect a second beta next month with more features and a near-final UI which will be unveiled in the coming weeks. Suggestions on that would also be appreciated.

The only requirement for this is .NET Framework 4. I suggest you to try this on a virtual machine so you can effortlessly try out future versions.
