Crazy Tech Countdown: Week of 11/28/2010

Welcome to this week’s Crazy Tech Countdown. It’s Thanksgiving week in the US, and I’m certainly thankful for all the crazy stories that flow onto my Google Reader feed every single day. Let’s count them down, shall we?

5. A geeky toy for really geeky kids - Toys are always evolving, that’s for sure. But if you were a really nerdy kid like I was, you’d probably drool over an incredibly accurate replica of a Portal gun, signed by the actual team behind Portal. If you’re hoping to get your hands on this, you might be out of luck as this one is being auctioned off for charity, but hopefully it will make a really nerdy child’s eyes glow. Oh, did I mention this gun actually glows in both blue and orange, like it does in the game?

4. Door - Privacy = This (submitted by Lyserg Zeroz)- One of the purposes of having a door in your room is to have some privacy. This Japanese designer disagrees. That’s why he’s come up with this glass doorknob that gives you a ‘fish eye’ view of what’s beyond the door by transferring light from the other end. I have nothing else to say about this other than: WANT.

3. Wifi might he harming trees (submitted by Lyserg Zeroz)- Wireless networks are nearly a must-have in the modern world. I use it everyday and enjoy its numerous benefits, and apparently risks, at least to trees. This Dutch study has tested city trees over a period of 5 years has found that damage, literally, has emerged on many of the trees, while those in rural areas have been largely unaffected. Although there’s no evidence such damage is necessarily caused by wifi, it’s one of the possibilities. My question is: if it’s harming trees, what could it be doing to us?

2. X-ray-proof underwear (submitted by Lyserg Zeroz)- A lot of people have privacy concerns over the new TSA-enforced full body scanners. Available for both men and women, it shields your junk from such scans, keeping your privacy intact. Not sure if the airport would enjoy that as much as you though, just saying.

1. An iPhone penis enlarger, really - And yes, it got pulled. Sorry to disappoint you.

That’s it folks. I hope you enjoyed this week’s stories and be sure to submit stories you’d like to see featured next week on our South Pole of the Moon thread. See you next week!
