Crazy Tech Countdown: Week of 12/12/2010

Welcome to this week’s Crazy Tech Countdown. This week we have prosthetic tentacles, smart wallets, a new generation of portable apps and more. Without further ado, let’s count ‘em down!

5. Lost your arm? Consider this option - Science has been developing prosthetic limbs for a while, but why should they resemble an actual body part? Having a tentacle instead of an arm would let you grip stuff more easily and help you speed your recovery.

4. Augmented taste reality - I haven’t had a lollipop in ages, but that could change if they ever bring one of these over there. I think this video is worth a thousand words:

3. Launch portable apps right from the browser - Portable apps are cool, but sometimes you don’t have that USB drive lying around: what if you could just launch them from a webpage and still not installing them? By installing a simple plugin, many of your favorite Windows apps are just one click away. This isn’t only useful for tech repairs. If you want to keep your system slim and minimal, you can run apps instead of installing them. Try Spoon for yourself.

2. Awesome smart wallets - We all tend to spend money we don’t have, thanks to credit cards and checks. These wallets will solve all that. By wirelessly checking your bank balance, it becomes slimmer and harder to open as you spend, that way helping you stay aware of your spending habits. Are you sold yet? (pun intended)

1. Raising plants without soil - get ready to have a farm in your room

That’s all for this week’s folks. Stay tuned for next week’s edition and be sure to keep submitting stories on our South Pole of the Moon thread. Later!
